Co-host and author of the book series "sage": Wendy
Music by Bo Todd
Welcome to Rogue and Wicked.
Wendy:Heatwave and rain over here and everyone else is bitching, but I like the rain and I like the warmth. So I'm like woo, woo, woo, woo.
Tiffany:See, I can't stand the rain, but I'm scared because in Canada there was a bunch of tornadoes like plowing through the area and it like took out all these houses and stuff. So I'm like kind of scared that that storm's coming down this way.
Wendy:Well, you know, I thought about Canada in regards to this heatwave too, because if we didn't have this water right now, I'd be afraid we'd be ablaze, like they were.
Tiffany:Yeah, well, we're getting that smoke inhalation coming down.
Wendy:Woo, woo, woo. We are, we are. I feel so bad for this earth girl.
Tiffany:Oh yeah, my allergy has been fucking crazy. I've been sneezing and sneezing and I had like fluid in my lungs. It's no joke. Like anybody who's down south hasn't been getting too much of it, thank God, but our air quality up here is crap right now.
Wendy:Which is not normal for us. When I went to the Midwest, I felt like I was drowning in dust and mud air and was so thankful to come back here and now. I'm like what the fuck?
Tiffany:Sorry, I was awening. No, I know what you mean. Like it's same here. It's awful.
Wendy:Speaking of awful, what are we going to learn about today?
Tiffany:Well, I have a very intriguing case Now. I want to call it the mysterious death of Whitney Houston. I don't want to call it murder per se, because there's a lot of controversy swimming around about Whitney Houston and her daughter Bobby's death.
Wendy:Holy shit, I've been wanting to learn about this. I'm so glad you're covering it. Is that why it was a surprise?
Tiffany:Yes, and we have to be extremely careful, so make sure you don't say much about who you think might have done it, because these are very powerful people that we're going to be talking about and I don't want them to think that I'm accusing anyone of anything. So we are going to tread very, very lightly on this one.
Wendy:I just want you to know that that was in relation to me. I know that feeling. My family doesn't want me to meet somebody new. They're like I know you don't speak with a filter, so don't say anything at all. If you can avoid it, okay.
Tiffany:So, in order to understand what happened to Whitney, we're going to talk about the night she died first, and then we're going to backtrack through her life to get a better understanding of what happened or could have happened. Whitney was scheduled to appear at a pre-Grammy awards party thrown by Clive Davis. When Whitney arrives five days before the party, she checked into the Beverly Hilton under the name Elizabeth Collins. Her hotel room was 434, which the hotel calls as Presidential Junior Suite. The layout was a bathroom, a bedroom and a sitting room. She brought a huge entourage with her to this party Mary Jones, her assistant, ray Watson, her bodyguard, bobby Christina, her daughter, pat Houston, which is a family member, nick Gordon, her unofficially adopted son, and Sean McGill, nick's friend. They were later joined by Ray J, who had dated Whitney at one time.
Tiffany:On the day of the party, whitney's assistant, mary Jones, left to pick up a package at Neiman Marcus. She laid out a gown that morning for Whitney to wear that night. She left and then returned about 3.35 pm. Mary Jones said that she told Whitney to get into the tub after she was complaining about a sore throat to get ready for the party. Mary Jones also stated that Whitney was in the tub brushing her hair before she ran out with Pat Houston to run an errand. Pat was quoted as saying they were picking up something pertaining to the party. No one knows why Mary didn't mention Pat coming with her. She saw Whitney's brother-in-law, who was her bodyguard, ray Watson, who was standing outside the door guarding the suite. When Jones entered the suite she found Whitney face down in a foot of water in the bathtub. She was the first to administer CPR and Jones told the neighbor to call 911.
Tiffany:When Jones entered the suite she noticed that the lights were all off. It was completely dark, except for the light coming through the window in the living room area. When she walked into the bathroom she claimed that the water was up to her ankles. The surrounding rooms had people that Whitney knew, so the police questioned the guests on the same floor. No one heard any screams or any calls for help.
Tiffany:Inside the room were bottles of beer, plates of food and an opened bottle of champagne. Around the room were loose prescription pill bottles and loose pills. On the bathroom counter, police found an ashtray with a cigarette butt in it and a rolled up piece of paper. In a drawer was a white powdery substance. On a mirror and on the bathroom counter was a spoon that looked like there was some kind of crystalline type substance in it. That was what they quoted as saying. On the toxicology, the toxicology report had shown that Whitney had acute cocaine in her system, flexoril, xanax and marijuana. The coroner and the police chopped it up to drug use and heart disease, as the singer had been known to use cocaine regularly for years before spending a stint in rehab, which means that Whitney would have had to spread all of these items about the suite. Get out of the tub then do some cocaine pills flexoril get back into the tub and pass away in the 45 minutes between the time Mary left and returned from her errand.
Wendy:That seems like a lot of running around fast to relax.
Tiffany:Yeah, because if you left and you didn't notice anything suspicious, and then you come back and all those things are all over the place, that's a little weird.
Wendy:Well, if she was a regular or recreational drug user, would it have been normal for them to see those things?
Tiffany:You would think so, but I'll get into that.
Wendy:Oh, okay alright.
Tiffany:Mary Jones was Whitney's longtime personal assistant and also her aunt. In 2018, mary changed her original statement and said that she went to get cupcakes at Sprinkles Bakery for Whitney at 2.45pm and then returned around 3.35pm, which is strange because she told investigators at the scene in 2012 that she went to Neiman Marcus. There was no record of a box of cupcakes even being found at the scene when police arrived. So either she went to Neiman Marcus and to Sprinkles to get cupcakes or she's lying about one or the other, but nobody knows why.
Wendy:Do they have camera footage of this? Because, I mean, I know, 2012 it wasn't as prevalent as it is now, but for a celebrity that has, you know, well off-celebrity like her, you would think so.
Tiffany:Well, they did have cameras in the hotel, but no one can seem to see anything on the cameras. I don't know if the police checked the cameras and didn't see anything or if they were buried, but they've never really come out. No shit, yeah, really strange. Now, clive Davis was a record producer who signed big names, like a Reef of Franklin, and he found Whitney and instantly wanted to sign her because he knew she would be huge. They were close. Clive was Bobby Christina's godfather and they were really, really good friends.
Wendy:You know what, though? Whitney was the full package. She was stunningly beautiful and had an immense amount of talent. I loved her.
Tiffany:I know I loved her too. She was like one of my all-time favorites, mm-hmm. So let's talk about Whitney's life, because now we talked about two big players in the story, so let's talk about Whitney and how she got to where she is now. Whitney's mother was Sissy Houston, who sang Back Up for the Stars, specifically Aretha Franklin. She never quite made it to stardom, however. Sissy was the director of a church.
Tiffany:Whitney grew up in Newark, new Jersey, in the ghetto. It was during the time when the riots were happening in the city. Whitney grew up singing at the church and she loved it. It was a big part of her family's life, but her mother was hard on her. They would fight because her mother wanted her to be fucking perfect. She saw the potential in Whitney to be great.
Tiffany:Whitney was bullied for being light-skinned so she hung mostly with her brothers. Her nickname was Nippy and it was given to her by her father. Whitney was put in a private school to keep her away from the bullies. The divorce of her mother and father hit Whitney pretty hard. She loved both of her parents dearly. There was cheating going on with the couple and Sissy was messing around with the preacher. So Whitney became angry with her mother and moved out. Whitney first started modeling but she knew she'd become a singer and didn't really like it. She was singing back up at Sissy's shows, at Miguel's. Whitney's mother claimed that she had a sore throat and needed her to fill in for, and that's how Whitney was eventually discovered by Clive Davis. He eventually won the bidding war with other record labels for Whitney to sign with that particular label. After it was pretty much history, she had seven hit singles in a row and outperformed the Beatles' end, fucking Elvis.
Wendy:No way that I didn't know.
Tiffany:Yeah. Whitney was groomed to be a part of the culture, which left no room for who she really was. Robin Crawford and Whitney moved in together. After they become really good friends, it was alluded that Whitney was having a lesbian relationship with Robin. Officially, whitney was bisexual, but because she was pushed to keep an image in the public eye, she dated men and eventually had to cut the relationship with Robin off. Whitney's family did not like Robin and they called her an opportunist who was wicked and evil. Whitney's father managed her money and ran the show. The rest of the family was on the payroll and with the fame came the fucking drugs. Whitney's brothers were using drugs and Whitney herself started using drugs at 16. As her fame progressed, so did her drug use. She met Bobby Brown after dating around the celebrity pool and fell in love with him. He was a member of the boy band slash R&B group. New Edition.
Wendy:Did you know he was also from Boston? Hey, oh really, I didn't know that.
Tiffany:Learn something new every day. They were married and she was super happy. Whitney wanted a family and a child. The first eight years of her daughter's life she stayed with her grandmother because her mother was always on the road. She took Bobby Cristino on tour eventually because it was hard on her to leave her daughter. Bobby Cristina had to grow up fast because she was around a bunch of adults. The road was no place for children because she didn't have peers or school to go to. It made Bobby Cristina cling to her mother because she had no stability in her life. Mary confided in the documentary Whitney that Whitney Houston confided in her that she had been sexually abused as a child by a female adult. Mary confided that it was Dionne Warwick's sister, dee Dee. That's why she never wanted to leave Bobby Cristina alone without her. After Whitney appeared in the Bodyguard, her career shot through the roof. That level of fame, in comparison to Bobby Brown's career, caused problems in their marriage. Of course it fucking did. Well, you know how the men's are they gotta be the superior one.
Wendy:It doesn't make sense, but way too many, even the most humble of them, do this. It's a weird thing to me.
Tiffany:I know it's so weird. It made Bobby feel like he was in the background of Whitney. Whitney tried to include him, to make him feel like a man, but it wasn't working. Bobby started cheating on Whitney. He got himself into legal troubles. He was being arrested by the police constantly. He was arrested for sexual harassment of other women and domestic violence. The fame and pressure was taking its toll on Whitney, with her failing marriage to the tabloids. Her addiction started spiraling. She started canceling tour dates and her voice wasn't the same, and the two of them became extremely toxic. She eventually said that she wanted to go to rehab. Her father told her that she didn't have to go and she didn't because her father enabled her.
Wendy:Now you said that he was running the show, controlling all the money, which is very Britney Spears, like it felt like earlier when you mentioned it.
Tiffany:Oh and it is, yeah, oh okay, alright, now he didn't have the same kind of thing that Britney Spears had going on with a conservatorship. But I watched a movie about Whitney's life and she had confronted her dad because he was moving money around and spending way too fucking much of it, using it for his own personal shit and for things that he said were for her. But it didn't. It wasn't. The accounting just didn't make sense.
Wendy:I know some rich parents that do that with their kids and I'm not gonna disclose who they are, but you know who they are. Oh yeah, and you know, what's really fucked up is that that's probably why he was enabling her too, because even though he didn't have a conservatorship, it's like enabling her to do drugs keeps her at a, you know, dim-witted, so he can still control more and should be aloof about it.
Tiffany:Exactly, Robin did everything for Whitney. Robin, of course, was the girl that she used to date now as her manager. Right, Robin did everything for her. Whitney supported her fully, but Robin and Bobby Brown did not get a fucking long. They used to fight over Whitney, mainly because Robin thought that Bobby wasn't good for Whitney which he wasn't and he was bringing her down. That's what Robin said.
Wendy:You know what that could be, why the parents had a problem with her too? Not the fact she was bisexual, so much as the fact that she was good for her.
Tiffany:Yeah, but, yeah. But I think that they didn't want her to ruin her image by being known as a lesbian singer in a time where it wasn't very kosher, to say the least, you know.
Wendy:Yeah, I guess you're right and maybe not regress to that time again.
Tiffany:No. Robin gave Whitney an ultimatum at this point and said because she's been in Whitney's life this whole time, she's her manager, she's her best friend, she's standing by her side, but they're just not getting along, her and Bobby Brown. So she says to Whitney it's either me or him. And Whitney chose her husband and lost her friendship with Robin and then fired her. So Whitney's father was stealing funds which we were talking about earlier from Whitney's account. He took over $100 million from his daughter during the time he was managing her career. Holy fuck, hell, yeah, I know he even went as far as trying to sue her for the money that he thought that she owed him. When she told him that she was going to manage her own affairs, she was so angry with her father that she didn't even go to her father's funeral.
Tiffany:Eventually, bobby Brown and Whitney's addiction had gotten so bad that they were neglecting Bobby Christina. Family members claim that Bobby Christina never had a chance growing up with her parents' demons that consumed their lives. Whitney was running from her pain and Bobby was numbing a lot of his own demons. Bobby Christina was a casualty of the mix. Now Bobby Christina started to hate her mother and even started cutting herself. At one point Whitney didn't want to give up on her marriage, but eventually the couple divorced. She felt like a failure. She started fighting to get clean for her daughter and her daughter started supporting her mother. So she kind of flipped it around after a while, when she saw their mom was cleaning up and flying straight, she was like alright, it's time for me to put this feud aside and stand by my mom.
Tiffany:Now Whitney was broke and decided to go on tour to drum up some cash. She also landed a role in the movie Sparkle. Whitney was so excited to do it because Sparkle was her favorite movie since the 70s and this was a remake of it. But here's the stipulation she was ordered to pass drug tests in order to continue on with her movie role, and she complied in all aspects. She passed every fucking test. Now let's talk about the week leading up to her death, because this is when she is premiered in Sparkle. This is when this whole night happens. This is where it all comes to a head.
Wendy:You know how long before the situation was she expected to take those drug tests for that?
Tiffany:It was all the way up until this moment, so she was like still on, yeah, still doing it.
Wendy:Oh, okay, that's relevant, thank you.
Tiffany:Yeah. So the week leading up to her death she had recorded a song for the soundtrack Sparkle while she was in town. The stipulation is that she had to remain drug free in order to play in the movie and sing on the album. She was given weekly drug tests and she passed every one of them. She was complying and she had recently got out of rehab. So it would have been strange for her to relapse with everything going on in her life at this moment and with all the things that she had done to get to this point. There was an incident in the gift shop where people witnessed Whitney flipping the fuck out because of a bad headline on the National Enquirer. The headline said Whitney collapses, strung out and broke, which was understandable for her to be angry, because anybody would be pissed off about seeing a headline like that when you just got your life together.
Wendy:That is one thing about being in the public eye and why a lot of people who are turned to drugs? Because people are so fucking cruel and so judgmental. And it's wild because, like we, you know nothing about these celebrities, you know only what's being presented to you and, alas, there are people that are cruel regardless of that and artists and creative beings, for the most part, were sensitive, you know. See that to coincide with being, you know, all that negative energy being aimed at you just out of spite or jealousy or judgment. I don't know if I could handle especially Whitney's level of fame, and then having to deal with all of these idiosyncrasies and bad habits and things in the public eye, to be fucking, you know, judged and persecuted like that.
Tiffany:No, I couldn't handle it. I don't think I could handle that too much. But of course with fame comes the bullshit. So later on that day witnesses saw Whitney doing handstands by the pool. People assumed she was intoxicated, but her personal friends said that she was showing off that she could still do a handstand at her age and wasn't intoxicated because, remember, she's like in her. I think she's in her 40s at this point. So I mean I, you know if I was like, oh well, you know, at the pool and there's a bunch of people hanging around and I'm like sober, like I could do a handstand.
Tiffany:Look at this, I'm like 40 something years old, I'm up on my, you know, up on my hands I can still do it, you know.
Wendy:I do. You know damn well that that'll probably be how I died, doing some crazy, stupid shit like that Exactly so like I could see how she could do that and not be intoxicated.
Tiffany:But I could also see how she could be intoxicated doing that. But, like I said, it would be really odd for her to use knowing that she still had drug tests the past, since you're still working on this movie. So Whitney leaves the pool and is headed through the lobby. When she bumps in the Clive Davis, he's given an interview to Brandy, the pop star, and Monica, the other pop star. Whitney just walked into the interview and interrupts it. She just like walks on through. She ignored the kicking under the table, so to speak, and saying hi to everyone. And this is like live broadcasted right now. While, while this is going on, she's just like walks right in. And I remember this because I saw it on TV. It was on MTV being live broadcasted and I saw Whitney walking and interrupt Monica and Brandy. Monica asks Whitney why she's all wet. Whitney tells her because she swims two hours a day, which alludes to the fact that Whitney was very active and healthy at the time.
Wendy:Whitney slid Fuck, could you do that? Can you swim for two solid hours a day?
Tiffany:No, I mean maybe, but I just don't know.
Wendy:I mean you know I'm gonna see if I can do that. There's a YMCA down the street and I've been meaning to fucking sign up, but that is such a great thing to do in your 40s people.
Tiffany:Oh yeah, totally. So here's the weird thing Whitney slips a note to Brandy, brandy hands it to her assistant and her assistant just takes it away. People who knew them thought that maybe the note was for Ray J, because Ray J is Brandy's brother. But no one really knows what the note was about and Brandy refuses to tell anyone what the note was about or who it was for, which is strange because think about this she interrupts a live television interview and hands Brandy a note in front of the camera. So like what did that note say? Was it like a cry? Was it? Was it like, oh, something's gonna happen to me or people after me, is something going on? Is it a sexual note saying tell Ray J to meet me somewhere later or maybe to call me? We don't know, because Brandy will never say anything about this note and hasn't so yeah, yeah, I mean, you would think it would be admitted into evidence, right?
Wendy:I mean, where did the note go?
Tiffany:Brandy has the note, still has it. Huh, I don't know if she still has it, but I knew she had it and she didn't tell anybody what was in it, so I don't know what it said that's weird.
Tiffany:I mean it could have said something real innocent too, like we don't know. It could have been something stupid, but it just was really odd. It was very odd behavior. So the last known sighting of Whitney was at the True Night Club. Kelly Price was having a For the Love of R&B party. Whitney arrives with her whole entourage and goes on stage to sing Jesus Loves Me with Kelly Price.
Tiffany:Moments after she gets off of stage, whitney is seen having a huge fight with Stacey Francis, who's a reality TV star. She thought Stacey was trying to get with Ray J so Whitney got in Stacey's face and called her bitch. Stacey said she tried to diffuse the situation and called Whitney her idol and said that she didn't want to fight with her. But Whitney snapped back stay away from my man, I'm a cougar and that's my man. And she I could totally see her saying that too. I could too.
Tiffany:Yeah, because she's sassy. I love Whitney and she was a cougar, yeah she was. She was like fuck you, that's my, my man, bitch. So she was photographed leaving the club with blood dripping down her leg, scratches on her arms. So it seems they had gotten into an actual physical altercation at the club, not just a verbal fight. When she gets home that night, tiffany Dixon read her scriptures from the Bible. She tells Tiffany I want to love and be loved, which suggests she was feeling a little, maybe heart sick, probably about the Ray J thing, because she says I want to love and be loved, so she must have been feeling some sort of way.
Wendy:I love that term Tiffany heart sick, because that resonates yeah and I could feel that you know.
Tiffany:So the night before her death, whitney has a premonition. Now, this is fucked up because we love this supernatural shit, because that's my cup of tea. So Whitney has this premonition that she's being asked to save Bobby Christina. So she goes to Bobby's room and she finds Bobby Christina asleep in the bathtub. She wakes her daughter up and pulls her out of the bathtub and she was even quoted as saying stay away from that water, that water is evil. The next morning, two hours before her death, which blew my fucking mind, to me that raised more questions than anything.
Wendy:Yes, it does. I mean it could have been prophetic, or it could have been alluding to something. In either case, that we can't, we can only speculate.
Tiffany:Exactly, but no one was in Bobby's room. But it was odd that Whitney would say that and then get into the bathtub later on. I would think that she would be terrified of the water after seeing that, because she says, stay away from the water, the water is evil, and then she ends up climbing into the tub.
Wendy:Right also seeing her daughter like that would be a terrifying thing too.
Tiffany:Yeah, especially since her daughter dies that way later in the story.
Wendy:Oh my god.
Tiffany:Yeah, so it was like a real premonition. The shit's wild. Also, that morning she had a conversation with her bodyguard about John the Baptist and asked him to play some music. He then tells Mary Jones, I need to get my shit together because I got to see Jesus. Why the fuck would she say that? That's a very ominous thing to say, considering the circumstances.
Wendy:That's an ominous thing to say, even without the circumstances.
Tiffany:Yeah, like, why are you going to see Jesus? You know it's strange. So she called a bunch of people that morning, a lot of people, and she had a bunch of things to do that morning. Also, she was due to shoot an infomercial for sisters candle company and had several other things to do in addition to that. The infomercial was to be recorded on the same floor that Whitney was staying on. Now Pat was the one who she was supposed to record this infomercial with. Right, pat usually stays on the same floor as Whitney, but this one particular time ever Pat stays on the floor below Whitney. Strange, that was out of character for her. She said she normally checks on Whitney also, but this particular morning she said she didn't check on Whitney. Why would this change just on this one occasion? It was extremely weird. But we could also say that this was a coincidence too. But I don't really believe in coincidences and that's all I'm gonna say about that.
Wendy:I know we discussed this with a few cases in the past that you and I do cling to patterns or lack thereof, or break up breaks in patterns, and that's a substantial break in pattern and the timing is a little suspicious.
Tiffany:It is, yeah, but again, I'm not gonna accuse anyone of anything, because we don't know anything. All we know is there's a lot of weird circumstances from a lot of people in this, in this story, and it's.
Wendy:I'm certainly not pinpointing at this point in reference. It was more of a generalized observation.
Tiffany:Yeah, we'll have to talk about what we think off of the microphone in private, but I want to know what you think afterwards in private.
Wendy:And we'd also like to know what our listeners think, because they don't have the same stipulations we do, and it would be great to get an objective point of view.
Tiffany:Yes, ma'am. So I'm gonna put a poll on our page so that they can. They can put what they think, or maybe they can even email us at roganwicked at yahoocom.
Wendy:Yeah, absolutely let us know what you guys think about this, because we have to be politically correct and sensitive to the nature of those who may or may not be listening.
Tiffany:Yes, it was also perplexing that Whitney would even get into a hotel tub because she was noted as saying to a personal friend of hers that she never, ever, takes baths and hotel tubs because they weren't sanitary. And I'm paraphrasing here A witness on the floor above Whitney who was an executive, said that they heard a loud thud and a male's voice coming from Whitney's room. That afternoon around 3 30 pm. This was reported by CNN. The person in the room below Whitney reported water coming through the ceiling. The bodyguard, ray, was outside of the door the whole time, supposedly, but heard nothing, which makes me think maybe he could have taken a break at some time and just didn't say anything about it, because you know it's her cousin or whatever, I'm sorry, her family member. So like it's possible that he could have walked away and maybe took a cigarette break or went to the bathroom and didn't see anything, or he could have never left the room at all and didn't see anything and nothing happened. But as this case goes on, you're gonna hear some more. Now here's something really strange too about this particular situation. Ray also wasn't questioned extensively as to whether or not anyone was coming or going during that time, so the police really didn't extensively question him at all about anyone coming or going.
Tiffany:Now Whitney was found at 3 35 pm by Mary, which we talked about. The room was flooded and people who knew Whitney are all arriving at the suite now. They're all arriving now. As soon as Mary finds her and everything's the commotion's going on. Ray and Mary move Whitney from the tub to the carpet in the living room to perform CPR. 9-1-1 is called at 3 43 pm by the concierge. Pat said that she told the woman in the room next to Whitney to call 9-1-1, so they think that she or he calls down the concierge. Concierge calls 9-1-1. When the paramedics arrived they moved the sofa to the patio so that they could perform life-saving techniques on her. When the police arrived they found Whitney's purse and her wallet inside, but her ID was missing, like somebody took it, and that's weird, because where would it have gone and who would have taken it?
Tiffany:Now, bobby Christina is downstairs and is unaware that her mom just died. Her friends knew, but they're trying to keep her downstairs to distract her so that she doesn't get traumatized by the scene. Brandy the singer rushes to the suite and panics. She called someone on the phone, presumably Ray J, but we don't really know. But he does show up, like shortly after, so we assume that that's who she called. The party commences because Clive doesn't want to cancel it, which is weird, because Whitney's like his best friend, he's her mentor, he's Bobby Christina's godfather, but he doesn't want to cancel the party because everybody's already paid and he wants the show to go on, even though she's upstairs and everybody's performing CPR and shit on her.
Wendy:Holy fuck the show must go on. Huh, yeah, I mean, how could one even be that apathetic? If any of my close friends you or any of my close friends had that happen to them, I would be too traumatized to even think about being around any people, and no less having to cater to a party. That blows my fucking mind, I know it blew mine too.
Tiffany:Now, while Whitney's body is still upstairs, people are downstairs just drinking and carrying on with the festivities. The coroner hadn't even gotten there until six fucking hours later, so she was literally lying on the floor until the coroner had gotten there six hours later. A lot of people left the party early because of Whitney's death looming over it. Some guests were visibly depressed. Clive gets on stage and he makes a speech about how upset he was that Whitney had passed. The crowd takes a moment of silence and then he says that he dedicates the party to Whitney. The music starts blasting and the party commences right.
Tiffany:But now another player comes into the into the mix here Raffles Dawson, a known con man who smoozes his way into entirages and he attends the party. He claimed he was close with Whitney and stayed at her guesthouse for months. He was known to cling to celebrities and trick them into thinking that he was a somebody. Raffles also has a few videos that he posted online that show how he's able to con his way into being part of people's entirages, to get free stuff and to meet celebrities. He even spoke at Michael Jackson's funeral. He was friends with Ray J and was staying on the fourth floor. The night that Whitney died he arrives with Quinton Arron and has Whitney's tickets to her dinner. How did he get those? Was he in the room?
Wendy:Yeah, it is. I'm actually thinking of a way he may have gotten those, but it's and her shit was missing too. Like yeah, you would think that those tickets would be amidst the things that were taken.
Tiffany:Now I'm not saying that he found her or nothing, but it is possible that he may have gotten into the room, found her dead in the tub and then just like took off. But I'm not saying that he did anything wrong.
Wendy:But it was very strange for him to have her tickets to the dinner unless he was in her room or he bought the tickets for the two of them to attend.
Tiffany:No, it was Whitney's tickets. Her name was on the tickets, oh shit.
Wendy:So you know, I mean I'm like a ticket collector, so like if I go to a concert or show or even some of my plane tickets, if they have relevance to them, I save them and I keep them, like you know, close to my ID until I find a little place to bring them and like archive them at home. I don't like it would be strange for her ID to go missing and those tickets to show up there, just because I mean like maybe not so much if her other shit didn't go missing, but definitely because it did.
Tiffany:Exactly so. He brags to other people at this party that he was the one who found Whitney deceased. He says this with his two lips. Now. Raffles claimed to have cleaned up her room and then rescinded his statement to the National Enquirer and then says that he just picked up some clothes in the room. He's known to be a liar, so you really can't trust Raffles Now. So he's admitted to being in her room the day that she died and said that he found her and he had her tickets to the dinner. Again, I'm not accusing anyone of anything, I'm just stating the facts here. Meanwhile, bobby, who was 18 at the time we're talking about Bobby Christina, not Bobby Brown finally realized what was going on and rushed upstairs. She understandably breaks down and is so upset that by 11 pm she's rushed to the hospital for her anxiety, like she was having a full blown fucking attack.
Tiffany:The news broke at this point and Whitney's death is reported all over the world. Everyone, even the police, didn't investigate anymore. It was reported that she died from a drug overdose and a heart attack. That's it. So I have the coroner's report. I went and found the coroner's report online and I fucking read it and this is what the coroner's report said and this is weird too.
Tiffany:Okay, the coroner's report noted that some scars on her body were healed. There was blood coming from her nose, she had abrasions on her face and there was abrasions on her right shoulder. Her entire chest showed signs of skin slippage Skin slippage on her upper left section of her abdomen and there was an old puncture wound near her inner left elbow. Abrasions in between her fingers and on the outside of the fingers and also there was some more skin slippage on her leg and her back. Her upper lip had been split and she had burn marks on her lower back and she had bruises in multiple places on her face and head.
Tiffany:The report also stated that she was found nude upon arrival. Pubic hair clippings were taken and fingernail clippings for forensic purposes. They even performed a rape kit on Whitney during the time that the coroner was there, but she showed no signs of rape anally or vaginally. The water temperature was stated as being 93.5 degrees when the coroner arrived, six hours after her death. Weird, why was the water so hot six hours later? Wouldn't you think that when you make the tub water real hot, that it would turn cold six hours later?
Wendy:The water would have been cold about 45 minutes into a bath. I mean at least at the lukewarm weather. I'm a bath taker. I have no way it would last three hours.
Tiffany:And they're supposed to have like at hotels. They have this thing on the um that's so that the the water temperature doesn't go above boiling. It's like a regulator. I mean, it's possible that the regulator was broken, but almost especially the Hilton, like I would think that there's. They would check those things. So I don't, I don't know. My problem with the coroner's report is she was said to have died of heart disease in addition to cocaine. Her arteries were only clogged at about 60%. Dr Drew said that she wouldn't have died from that mild amount of artery clogging. It sounds like a lot, but it's really not. Apparently he thought maybe it was a seizure that caused her to flip over and maybe, from you know, not taking Xanax for a long time and taking it induced a seizure. That's just his theory. So the coroner's report said that the scolding was on her back. Now how do you get into a tub? Do you fall in ass first or do you step in with your feet? Depends.
Wendy:No, but really I mean you step in with your feet.
Tiffany:Yeah, because you can't get in there without doing that unless you just fucking like hit the water with your whole body, right? So why was the scolding on her back where the major scolding was, and not anything on her feet right? So she went in ass first, meaning that she, if she was already in the tub when Mary left, then she would have had burn marks on her feet, right. I'm no forensic tech here. I'm sure skin slippage can happen when you're in hot water for a long time and it can accelerate the process. But she supposedly had only been in the tub for 45 minutes. That's not normal Decomp for 45 minutes.
Wendy:Right, these things don't add up at all. I mean, there's a lot of things that don't from beginning until end.
Tiffany:Get strange Now. She would have had to have been in the tub for a lot longer than 45 minutes, I think, but I don't know. Again, I don't know. And if she was conscious when she went in, then you would scream. If you touched water, that was boiling temperatures when you entered the water, right. So nobody heard her scream or anything. So if she went in, you would have heard her.
Tiffany:While Mary Jones changed her story many times and left out information that would have been pertinent to the investigation, she has stated to news outlets that she believed Whitney was murdered. She couldn't believe that in the 45 minutes that she was gone that Whitney would have overdosed and died. Mary claimed that she pushed investigators to look deeper into Whitney's death because Whitney's personal belongings were moved all around the room and she thought that Whitney's ID missing was suspicious. So even Mary Jones, who wasn't completely honest in the beginning of the story, is saying that she thinks that Whitney was murdered. Bobby Brown also thought that Whitney's death was suspect. He said I don't think Whitney died from drugs. She was really working hard on herself at trying to be a sober person.
Tiffany:At the funeral on February 18th 2012, many people attended, including Razzle or Raffles. They had his like two names, his two aliases, and it was held in Newark, new Jersey, and a picture was leaked to the tabloids of Whitney in her casket. Many people think that Razzle or Raffles sold the picture to the tabloids, but no one could ever prove it. Stars attended the funeral and she was buried in a plot next to her father. Now there's a lot of conspiracy theories about the death of Whitney Houston and there's one thing that I didn't mention before we get into that the water was off when Mary entered the room. That's a very important piece of information. The water was turned off on the tub. The water was all over the floor up to her ankles, but the fucking water was off. If she died in the tub with the water running and it overflowed the tub onto the floor up to the ankles, even if she died and fell into it, like, say, standing up and had a seizure and fell into the tub, how did the water get turned off?
Wendy:You don't fall asleep and then turn the water off.
Tiffany:No, because you're unconscious.
Wendy:And I'm trying to imagine that, even if she fell into the tub because I'm you know, I've done that, I'm sure you've done it too where we've slipped and fallen into like pools and tubs and shit, not that much water would come out. No, some water sure, like absolutely get the floor wet, but up to your ankles deep.
Tiffany:Absolutely not. No, not unless that thing was running Right. Yeah, so something, something's fucked up here. Now here's the conspiracy theories. Now there's a lot of them that came out surrounding Whitney's death and they were all pretty fantastical. I listened to most of them on who Killed Whitney, which is a great fucking podcast. That's where I got a lot of my information from, and I don't normally get stuff from podcasts, but their links were very thoroughly researched and so I followed all their links. So I used that podcast as a reference and then I found all the links and I did my own research. So all of these theories involved gangs, drugs and owed money.
Tiffany:One man claimed to have written a book that explains what happened to her, but it was never published. There's another theory that seems weak at first, but have me thinking a bit. A Hollywood private detective was claiming that Whitney Houston was murdered and that he had allegedly uncovered CCTV footage that proves that Whitney was the victim of an attack by two men who were sent to collect a debt for drugs. Paul Hubel has made claims to the National Enquirer. He said I have evidence that points to Whitney being a victim of a high-powered drug dealer who sent thugs to collect huge debt that she owed for drugs. He alleges that the day before her death that Whitney was heard to say I'm tired of this shit after taking a delivery of cocaine from dealers. Paul also believes that, despite what the coroner says, whitney's body tells a different story. He said Whitney's body shows classic defense wounds that would have occurred when she was battling for her life Because, remember, she had bruises on her fucking head. Now it could have been from the fight the night before at the club, but it also could be from something else, because her lip was busted open. Paul details the injuries and how they point to a struggle before her death. He also said that there were two mystery men seen trying to blend in with Whitney's entourage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on the day that she died and there was a 40-minute gap where her alleged killers slipped into her room and were caught on camera. Paul claims to have discovered this new information through a network of informants and is now handing it over to the FBI in an attempt to have the case reopened. Paul runs a private investigation firm called Paul Hubel Investigations. The company is licensed in Arizona and California. However, nothing came of this proof that Paul had and there's no announcements that her case was ever reopened, so up until now it's unsubstantiated. So let's dive into Bobby Christina's death.
Tiffany:Bobby Christina was very close with her mother. Whitney took Bobby with her everywhere. She took the death particularly hard After Whitney's divorce from Bobby Brown. She was living in Atlanta with Nick Gordon and Bobby Christina. Whitney fell into a deep depression and Bobby Christina starts using drugs around this time, with Nick there. It was easy to fall into it because Nick was supplying Whitney and begins to supply Bobby Christina also. Nick and Whitney were pretty close during this time and she leans into her relationship with Bobby Christina and Nick Gordon. It was obvious that Whitney's addiction was clouding her judgment on who she was bringing around her child and keeping in her inner circle.
Tiffany:Nick moved in with Whitney and Bobby when his parents kicked him out of the house. He had a turbulent home life and both Bobby Christina and Nick became best friends. I'm sure there was some sexual tension while they were living together, but the two didn't start dating until after Whitney's death. Bobby claims that her and Nick were engaged with a ring that she inherited from her mother. Bobby Christina tried to launch a singing career but it never took off. Nick and Bobby claimed to be married on Twitter, but they never actually were married, which was sort of bizarre. Nick starts showing signs of becoming possessive. He controls her phone, her friends, and he even takes big chunks of money and transfers it into his account.
Tiffany:Bobby, christina and Nick were using heroin and crack together regularly. Daniela, a roommate of the two, saw the physical abuse between Nick and Bobby. One time Nick lunged for Bobby while she was sitting on the couch and hit her so hard in the face that he broke the fucking couch. He knocked her to the floor and then beat her face in until it was bloody. He then began to kick her in the ribs while she was screaming and crawled up in the fetal position. During the attack, he knocked out one of Bobby Christina's teeth. He then told her to get upstairs and she started crawling towards the staircase. So Nick grabbed her by her hair and he drugged her up the staircase, leaving blood all over the walls. He threw her into the master bedroom and stated that he doesn't do this often, alluding that this has happened before.
Wendy:What a way to downplay and admit that you've done this before Exactly. Attempt to downplay.
Tiffany:Yeah, a total, fucking narcissist. So once she was found unresponsive on the floor, nick told paramedics that she had a seizure, but she didn't have any history of seizures. Bobby was supposed to meet Bobby Brown about trying to get away from Nick, but she never had shown up. Nick isolated her prior to this, so she really didn't have many people to run to. Nick was arrested in 2018 for domestic violence after he assaulted his new girlfriend, so that gives you an idea about who he was as a person. Pat Houston had gotten a restraining order against him because he made threats with guns and violence that she thought were directed at her for not increasing Bobby Christina's allowance, so he was a little money hungry.
Tiffany:January 30th in 2015, nick Max and another friend were at the club. Bobby Christina called Nick and accused him of being at a strip club in cheat and honor Max said that they left the club. Nick and Bobby were fighting on the phone the whole ride home. Then Nick checked the security cameras of the home and listened in on Bobby's conversations over the phone. When he had arrived at the residence, they began fighting from the kitchen to the living room and then to the master bedroom. Nick calls Bobby a bitch and a whore and they both start accusing each other of cheating. The argument lasted about 30 minutes and then it gets dead silent. Nick told Dr Phil that the two made up and he went downstairs to play video games. In court documents it says- Wait, dr Phil, dr Phil.
Tiffany:Yeah, he went on, dr Phil.
Wendy:Okay, all right.
Tiffany:Yeah, which I mean I don't. I don't know about Dr Phil, but-.
Wendy:Dr Phil is just a plumber. I've seen it on scary movie, is he?
Tiffany:I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding, I'm just kidding. I was like I don't I've seen him substantiated, okay.
Wendy:Have you seen the scary movie though?
Tiffany:Uh, no, but I'm gonna have to watch it now.
Tiffany:Oh, that's funny as hell. I love them. So in court documents it says that Nick came out of the bedroom in different clothes than he went in. So he went in, changed his clothes and came out right, and so what he did next was was fucking weird, right. So he goes and he lays on his roommate Danielle's bed and he says now I want a pretty little white girl like you.
Tiffany:Max found her at approximately 15 minutes later or so and she was face down in the bathtub. The water was extremely cold, so it's the opposite of Whitney Houston scene she's face down and it's cold instead of hot. She has a tooth hanging out of her mouth and there was a dust pan at the bottom of the tub, which is weird, and her lip was swollen. Max gets Nick and Nick drains the tub and then yells clean up, clean up to the roommates. Then they try to perform CPR on Bobby, but Nick starts slapping her in the face and screams wake up in between compressions. They call the paramedics and she is taken to North Fulton Hospital and is placed in a medically induced coma because she's not quite dead yet.
Wendy:That poor baby.
Tiffany:I know she dies in the hospital of pneumonia, of asphyxiation, due to the immersion of water and drugs, six months later. So she's in a fucking coma. For six months until she was taken off of life support, the matter of death was ruled as undetermined because they couldn't tell whether it was murder or accidental. While Bobby Christina is in a coma, nick had stolen over $11,000 from her account. Bobby Brown came out and said that he thinks that Nick Gordon killed both Whitney and Bobby Christina. That's what Bobby Brown said, which I'm not going to say that. But it is strange that they were both found in a bathtub dead, were near dead, and that he was at both crime scenes. I'm not saying that he's guilty, I'm just saying that he was, coincidentally, at both crime scenes.
Wendy:I will say that he's a piece of shit either way.
Tiffany:Yeah, I mean that you can definitely say he discussed in an interview with Jada Pinkett Smith at length what he thought about Nick Gordon. Bobby is certain that Nick connects the two deaths and the way that they were found to him was more than coincidental. Plus, nick was present during the time both women were found dead. Like I said, the day of Whitney's death Nick was only a few doors down from Whitney's suite and the night that Bobby Christina died he was in the house.
Tiffany:Bobby said that Nick provided drugs to both Whitney and Bobby Christina and in Bobby Christina's coroner report it stated that she had died from asphyxiation from the water inhalation and a cocktail of drugs that were injected into her by Nick Gordon. Bobby Brown sued Nick Gordon for the wrongful death of Bobby Christina and he was found liable for the wrongful death. So the court determined that Nick caused the death of Bobby Christina by causing bodily injury, pain and suffering and trauma from physical abuse. So he's technically found liable for her murder. But he was not charged with murder, so her death was deemed his fault. He was found liable for stealing Bobby Christina's personal property, assets and money without anyone's permission and he was ordered to pay 36 million in the suit.
Tiffany:But Nick missed the two court dates and that didn't help his case and I think, made himself look even more guilty. And unfortunately Bobby Brown would never see any of the money paid back to him because Nick didn't work or have any income to garnish and he was free to just like walk the streets. But in all fairness, he never had shown up to court to defend himself and the decision was made without him even being present. So he didn't even show up to court and the judge made a decision without him even being there. That's pretty bizarre. Yeah, it's strange. Right, it's in Florida too, so I mean it's not that strange for Florida.
Wendy:I mean, I felt like when I was in litigation there was no getting out of court dates, not without some type of repercussion. Do you know what I mean?
Tiffany:At least that face value repercussion, yeah in August of 2018, max was found in the bathroom with a needle next to him and died of an apparent overdose. In January of 2020, nick Gordon overdosed at a party on Tequila, marijuana and heroin. His then girlfriend, ariel found him unresponsive, making gurgling noises, with a dark substance coming out of his nose.
Tiffany:She called 911, but he eventually died of a heroin overdose. I did find an interesting interview with Leola Brown, which was Bobby Brown's sister. Leola spoke to Inside Edition about how she thinks someone murdered Bobby Christina and Whitney. She believes that Nick Gordon murdered Bobby Christina and Leola thinks that the motivation was Bobby Christina's fortune that she inherited from Whitney Houston, which you know gives somebody a motive. I mean, if you know that you're kind of dating Whitney Houston's daughter, whitney Houston passes away, then Bobby Christina is going to get all the money and then when you're dating Bobby Christina, you control Bobby Christina, you're trying to control her abscess. You think that if she does, you may get some of that money. But unfortunately for him her family controlled all the money, so she got an allowance.
Wendy:And he wasn't getting that allowance.
Tiffany:No, and so that's why it was a problem between Pat Houston and Nick Gordon, because she wouldn't up Bobby Christina's allowance. So but there's some weird shit with Pat Houston, with Leola too. They didn't have a good time together because Leola says that at the funeral of Bobby Christina she verbally attacked Pat Houston, so they got into a big fight at the. At the funeral Leola said she did not like the setup of the funeral and who was utilized as the pallbearers. Pat threw a fucking sweet 16 at her funeral, which infuriated Leola.
Wendy:Wait a minute. Stop Repeat that again, pat.
Tiffany:Houston threw a sweet 16 at Bobby Christina's funeral for Bobby Christina. Wow Because she never had one.
Wendy:Yeah, that's you know. I've experienced so many strange funeral customs, and including some of my own, so I'm not being judgmental when I say this. It just feels eerie to me.
Tiffany:Yeah, it's like an inappropriate time, I think, but like I get the sentiment of it.
Wendy:Yeah, I do too. I mean again, I've done. You know I've gone to so many, especially with the multi fucking the eclectic range of friends that I have, like so many different types of funerals, but like I don't know, I couldn't do that. It feels too eerie to me.
Tiffany:Yeah, I don't think I could do that either. A family member took a picture of Bobby Christina's body and sold it to a tabloid. Leola said that the circumstances of their death were too similar. Before Bobby Christina's death she came out publicly to warn Bobby about who she was keeping.
Tiffany:A cousin of Whitney Houston told media outlets that Pat Houston had something to do with both Bobby Christina and Whitney's death. We do know her story was very inconsistent and it didn't make a whole lot of sense. But other members of Whitney's family said that this particular family member hadn't had contact with Whitney or Bobby Christina before their deaths and he is unreliable. So those claims about Pat Houston may be completely unsubstantiated. They're unreliable and apparently this person hadn't had contact with Whitney before her death. So I don't know if they're just trying to get attention or whatever, or maybe trying to make some quick cash, but something ain't right about him coming out. I wouldn't say that Pat did anything and I definitely wouldn't say that Mary did anything. They did kind of do some weird shit around that time. But again, I would never accuse anybody anything.
Wendy:There were a lot of benefactors around those poor women. That's the part. That's really sad is that they were benefiting from their work and their addiction, their life and their death.
Tiffany:Yeah, as far as sauce facts go, like people that admitted to being in the room with Whitney, that's really strange. That would be at the it's in the top of my mind. People that obviously you know Nick Gordon had to do with Christina's death, that's pretty apparent. You know, again, people have their theories, but none are fact and the only way we'll ever find out is if the hotel released footage from that day that Whitney died or if someone blows the whistle on another person or themselves. But regardless, one of America's greatest singers of all time died way too fucking early and under some really suspicious circumstances. And, like I said to our listeners, I am so interested in what you think. Please email us with your theories at roganwicketayahucom, because I'm really interested if you guys are thinking the same things that I am, and I'm trying not to give my opinion for obvious reasons, but also because I want to hear what you guys think.
Wendy:Tiffany, thank you so much for that. I tend to veer away from that sector of pop culture, as you know, because it does taint the art and the music, and I was devastated about Whitney Houston's death when it transpired. And most recently, this opens another emotional can of worms pertaining to musicians. Rest in peace, tina Turner, right Like. May the two of them be rocking out together, right now.
Tiffany:I hope they're hanging out right now talking shit, because the two of them are fantastic.
Wendy:And.
Tiffany:I love Tina Turner. She's been through hell and back, and so is Whitney.
Wendy:Houston they have, and Tina Turner's my soldier. I felt more strongly about the Tina Turner loss than Whitney. That is because I was younger when Whitney passed away and I was even younger when I started to love Tina Turner and it just she became so spiritual towards the end and it was crazy to know that she overcame abuse, she got herself out of those situations and evolved in an absolutely beautiful way and lived. She lived a long life and it's very tragic that Whitney Houston didn't get that chance because she could have done the same thing, that she was that strong, she was that talented.
Tiffany:Yeah, and it was a shame because everybody was kind of sucking on her teeth. You know she had her whole. Like it was nice, it was a very thoughtful and nice thing to employ her entire family to be her, you know, to take care of them all, you know.
Wendy:Right, and I mean the thing is is she was so beautiful and so talented. Everyone looked at her like she was a cash cow.
Tiffany:Yeah, that's exactly what I was alluding to. Yeah.
Wendy:Yeah, it's, it's a wicked said because, like you know, I think that of course she would turn to addiction, based on the whole limelight scenario that we mentioned. Musicians have to go through because so many models and musicians go through that, but especially her, my god but to be taken advantage of those who she entrusted. That's again, like I said, just very sad that there were so many benefactors, both family and not, and because of that there's vast amount of people who could be suspects, exactly, and I mean there's so many the entourage, the fucking people that were around her all the time.
Tiffany:you know, everybody is a suspect, everybody's a suspect.
Wendy:Because and those around her didn't love her enough to keep the bad ones away. That's for sure.
Tiffany:Yeah, and that's if that even happened. But I believe that there was fail play. That I will say. I believe there's fail play because nobody falls into a tub ass first and the water is running and they turn it off themselves when they're unconscious and that they're laying in fucking boiling water. And is it possible that she did drugs and had a seizure and fell in a tub? But how did the fucking tub turn off? Did razzles or fucking raffles or whatever his name is, come in and turn the water off and then steal her ID and the tickets for downstairs? Who fucking knows? He claims that he went in there, but we don't know if it was before or after she had passed. You know he could have been partying. We don't know, we don't know.
Wendy:Nobody knows, right, it's just wild it is that one is probably it's an unsolvable case, that's for sure.
Tiffany:Yeah, and the Bobby Christina premonition she had, and she walked in there and found her sleep in the fucking tub and then she dies that way. It's crazy. Yeah, it was a very interesting case to dive into.
Wendy:Well, rest in peace, whitney Houston.
Tiffany:Yeah, rest in peace.
Wendy:At least musicians get to live forever, huh.
Tiffany:Yeah, and through their music Precisely.
Wendy:Yeah, well, thanks for that too. Oh, no problem. Well, it was intense.
Tiffany:I know it was and I still think about this keeps me up at night, this case. So if you guys want to check out our Instagram, twitter, facebook, tiktok it's Rogue and Wicked Podcast. Tiffany:I want to give a special shout out to the who Killed Whitney podcast, because your links and resources helped me research this case and you guys were funny as hell and I'm glad that I listened. I mean, if you want to check out that podcast, that goes in depth, that's like. I think it's like nine episodes. This all about this case, and they go into way more detail than I do. So if you want to have a cool thing to follow this up with, to listen to, and listen to all their theories and everything that they thought about the case, they give a very fresh perspective, especially from a black point of view, because the one girl on the podcast says something about how a black girl wouldn't go into the bathtub with her wig on and brush it in the tub. She says that black girls don't do that. I don't know because I don't wear wigs, but I believe her, so I would check it out if you guys want to listen to a really good podcast. So thanks for listening and till next time.
